Piercing Shots: Moving forward
INTRODUCTION
I’m happy to announce that the development of “Piercing Shots” has been completely moved on the beta stage, completely rewritten from the previous alpha prototype, currently, “Piercing Shots” has been improved a lot on the code area and visuals, making it a better presentation of the current vision that I’ve for this Shoot ‘em up Game. I’m Kanondev a software developer that wants to make a video game since a long time, trying to bring most of the software industry skills to bring this dream to reality, since I couldn’t enjoy the arcade era, my mission is to “live it” making a good Shoot ’em up.
VISION
Piercing Shots will be a mix of a conventional Shoot ‘em up with arcade design and a narrative experience that shows how hard is the live of as our main character “King Charcoal”, it’s shown the unwanted responsibility of being the leader of a huge Nest that consists of twelve kingdoms of different animal species, with their respective king. King’s Charcoal is the leader of the twelve kingdoms, making it just as harder to make decisions or even to act, because the kingdom is constantly being attacked by sentient machines, and by this effect the land became corrupted so their fight to survive is as harder as it gets, all because those machines want the extinction of all living creatures.
NARRATIVE
My idea is to add a reinterpreted 2D version of the famous “Chao Garden” from “Sonic Adventure 2” being able to interact with NPCs that Charcoal needs to help: sharing food, sharing knowledge or preaching to boost the moral of the team, it will be an optional choice for the player since it wouldn’t interrupt the main “SHMUP” Gameplay, this will be acquired from an specific action between levels or directly on the main menu. The player will acquire resources from playing the Game and he will be able to invest them on the different things that this Gamemode will offer, like improving the main headquarters, feed civilians and things of that nature, currently I don’t have concrete ideas on this yet, but my plan is to extend this mode because it’s basically the main source of lore and resting between runs.
LIMITATIONS
The progress of the Game is slow because I’m mastering Haxe/Heaps, Pixelart and Composition, making assets by myself and on the other side applying for a job at the moment, making this more hard to know when: it will be more mature enough to show it to publishers or to find funding for the Game; My experience is limited, so I’m hopping this will get released soon in the years ahead.
